Goalkeeping legends Compare Tactics

Investec, specialist bank and asset manager, have brought together the star goalkeepers from two of their sponsored teams, Tottenham Hotspur and the Great Britain Women’s Hockey team. With over 180 international caps between them, Brad Friedel and Beth Storry took part in a unique training session at Tottenham Hotspur’s training ground, providing Beth with world class coaching ahead of this year’s Olympics.

Beth Storry is the number one goalkeeper in Women’s Hockey. The GB Women’s Hockey team, currently ranked 4th in the world, are in excellent form following their silver medal in the Champions Trophy in Argentina; their most successful international result to date. Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper, Brad Friedel, is one of the most experienced goalkeepers in the Premier League.

The training session was planned by Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeping coach, Tony Parks, in collaboration with the GB hockey goalkeeping coach, Steve Bayer.

“The pressure of international and premiership football is so intense; I have huge respect for the way Brad has managed to stay at the top of his game for such an extended period. To have an insight into his regime was of great value and a big boost for me as we head into this summer’s Investec London Cup and of course, the Olympics,” said Beth.

Brad commented: “I have watched quite a bit of hockey and although the sports are very different, there are many similarities from a goalkeeper’s perspective. Positioning, footwork and reaction speed are fundamental to both Beth and I and it was great to learn more about her training programme.”
