Investec will be providing financial support for the opening of the Flashback show, in which the Turner Prize winning artist will exhibit a number of his most admired pieces and will also show for the first time one of his major sculptural works, Her Blood (1998), chosen specifically for the Manchester Art Gallery’s exhibition space.
Richard Heggie of Investec, Manchester commented: “The launch of Anish Kapoor’s Flashback exhibition is a very exciting event with which to be involved. Investec is thrilled to be supporting such an inspirational artist, in what will undoubtedly be another unique and successful show. The Flashback tour will bring some of Anish’s most engaging pieces to the heart of Manchester, and will make a number of his most admired works accessible to a wider audience, which is why Investec is so keen to be a part of it.”
The exhibition, which runs from 5 March until 5 June, follows Anish Kapoor’s record-breaking 2009 show which took place at the Royal Academy of Arts and is the first major display of his work outside London for over ten years.
The pieces available to view at the Manchester Art Gallery range in size and include key earlier works such as White Sand, Red Millet, Many Flowers (1982) which highlights Kapoor’s talent for applying raw pigment to a range of organic forms. Other works on show include Untitled (1997-98), an optically illusionary stainless steel void plus a sculpture selected exclusively for the gallery, Her Blood (1998). A number of the pieces that will be displayed have been lent by Kapoor himself. In addition, a selection of artworks are on loan from UK collections and from the Arts Council Collection.
“We are delighted that Investec Specialist Private Bank has chosen to support Manchester Art Gallery by sponsoring Anish Kapoor: Flashback. Their sponsorship is a fantastic example of the cultural and business sectors working together for mutual benefit, at a time when the arts are facing huge funding uncertainty. We hope that through their exhibition sponsorship Investec will inspire other businesses to support culture and help us to continue to bring world class art to Manchester”, said Moira Stevenson, Head of Manchester City Galleries.
Flashback is a major series of touring exhibitions from the Arts Council Collection, which is one of Britain’s foremost national collections of post-war British Art.
