That said, the planet dimension of our activities is based on a growing understanding of the risks to our business represented by climate change and global warming, and the need to reduce our environmental footprint by becoming more energy efficient.

We also continue to explore areas within the environmental arena where new commercial opportunities may reside. This is more relevant for some business units than others.

Our initial groupwide internal focus has been on creating awareness and encouraging behavioural change in recognition of our environmental responsibilities.

A staff initiative known as Team Green, which originated in Investec UK, has now been established in many of our other regional offices. This is designed to solicit suggestions and ideas from employees relating to ways in which our environmental practices can be changed, both in the office and at home.
