Examples include:
Continued regular interaction with investment analysts, rating agencies and the investment community, detailing Investec’s financial performance while navigating the storm
Participation in industry-wide and one-on-one engagement with banking regulators
Appointment of new international PR company to handle Investec’s media relations
More extensive employee briefi ngs on the state of the external environment and Investec’s response
Extensive discussion, in select instances, with affected internal stakeholders regarding the need, in light of prevailing circumstances, for employee re-deployment and/or retrenchment
Introduction of client briefi ngs in all main regions of SA to heighten client awareness of Investec’s ability to withstand global financial pressures
Introduction of external stakeholder participation in senior internal leadership development programmes with the aim of eliciting specific stakeholder feedback on Investec’s performance in driving each of the principal capital types ie financial, human, client and social
Involvement of external stakeholders in repositioning of South Africa’s CSI strategic approach and subsequent additional
engagement regarding identifi ed outcomes with remaining and affected stakeholders
Up-front engagement, in all principal geographies, with a number of external bodies potentially positioned to conduct Investec’s carbon-footprinting exercise
Creating employee awareness within the SA business regarding the creation of new group-wide employee-elected Employment Equity forum
Soliciting ongoing employee support for the group’s continued paper and energy reduction campaigns, and attracting high SA staff participation in a staff travel survey used as part of SA’s carbon footprint calculation
Significantly-increased interaction with, and questioning by, international ESG and sustainability-focused analysts and external bodies in respect of Investec’s triple bottom line activities
Continued interaction with suppliers regarding Investec’s identifi ed areas of emphasis in respect of supply chain practices
Continued annual brand tracking research which measures awareness and perceptions of Investec so as to assess marketing and communication efforts from a group brand perspective. As part of this exercise, we also investigated perceptions on brand trust, BEE, social investment and the environment.
