Being a responsible business
Our commitment to be a responsible business stems from our purpose in society. It is core to our business . Thinking, acting and investing for everyone’s tomorrow not only shapes what we do but how we do it.
It is woven throughout our business strategy, recognising that this approach is core to our day-to-day decision-making. This focus on the long term is how we will not only create value for our clients but also make a wider contribution to society.
Our approach
Our stakeholders
The firm’s stakeholders are our clients, our people, our shareholders, our communities, regulators and partners. Our aim is to maintain an open and transparent approach to stakeholder engagement based on building constructive relationships with our key stakeholders and ensure there is a two-way dialogue.
Responsible investment
As a wealth manager, we are responsible for investing on our clients' behalf to help them try to achieve their long-term goals and aspirations.
We also recognise that the environment, society and financial stability are intertwined, and believe in our responsibility to contribute to the transition to a net zero economy. With this in mind, we believe it’s in the best interests of our clients that the companies and economies we invest in adopt best practices in managing environmental, social and governance (ESG) risks.
By addressing ESG issues, a responsible investment approach not only serves to protect the planet and people, but also preserves wealth and generates returns via enhanced risk management opportunity identification.
With responsible investment, building a sustainable future and creating value go hand in hand.
Our approach is aligned to the Rathbones Group Plc four pillars of responsible investing:
We consider ESG factors in the evaluation of investments to help identify ESG opportunities and risks.
We actively vote in a manner that allows us to focus our resources where we believe we can make the most difference.
We prioritise engagement where we can help make a difference in addressing systemic ESG challenges.
We are committed to being transparent about our approach to responsible investment.
UK Stewardship Code
We were successful in our application to remain signatories to the Financial Reporting Council’s revised UK Stewardship Code, which sets standards for investing on behalf of UK savers and pensioners.
We have published our full-year disclosure of Stewardship activity, including a summary of our engagement and policy work. This also demonstrates our commitment to being active owners and signifies our support for the UN Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) to which we are signatories, active ownership being a key UN PRI priority.
