TCFD reporting

Helping you assess climate-related risks and opportunities for your members

pixel
The Financial Stability Board (FSB) created the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) in 2015 to improve and increase reporting of better climate-related financial information.

The TCFD developed a framework, published in 2017, which primarily aims to ensure that financial risks and opportunities related to climate change become a natural part of companies’ risk management and strategic planning processes.

The disclosures required under TCFD will help investors and others understand how reporting organisations think about and assess climate-related risks and opportunities, ultimately leading to a more efficient allocation of capital to support the climate transition.

Entity-level reports

On-demand product reports

In addition to entity-level reporting, under the TCFD Framework, IW&I UK is also required to produce product reports from 1st July 2024. The type of product report required varies depending on the regulated entity and the business type.

There are on-demand reports for portfolio-level reporting available to clients who request it to meet their own regulatory financial disclosure obligations.

The metrics covered in the reports include:

  • Weighted Average Carbon Intensity (WACI): A calculation of the carbon intensity of the portfolio, weighted by the amount invested in each company, expressed in tonnes CO2e per $m revenue.
  • Total Carbon Emissions: A measure of the absolute Green House Gas emissions associated with the portfolio, expressed in tonnes CO2e.
  • Total Carbon Footprint: A calculation of the total carbon emissions for a portfolio, normalised by the market value of the portfolio, expressed in tonnes CO2e per $m invested.
  • Fossil fuel-based Revenue Exposure: The percentage of the portfolio’s value that is exposed to companies that derive revenues from fossil fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas.
  • Implied Temperature Rise: A forward-looking metric which helps investors to understand whether the emission reduction efforts of the assets in the portfolio are aligned with the goal of the Paris Agreement (to limit the global temperature risk to well below 2C).
