With ethical investment requirements being a particular focus, I create and manage tailored portfolios for clients. In addition to this, I sit on a number of internal committees to deliver the necessary resources to the firm’s charity clients.

I manage a broad range of multi-asset investment portfolios for high net worth private clients and families, trusts and company pension schemes, all tailored to their specific circumstances. Included within this are taxable, ISA, SIPP and offshore bonds portfolios. I also enjoy building strong relationships with IFAs where, as a team, we pride ourselves on working closely with both the adviser and their clients to help achieve the required investment solution.

My focus is on meeting my clients' objectives, with respect to their risk profiles. It is important to have regard to a client's overall financial position at both personal and family level. I then combine my own experiences with Investec's in-house research resources on markets and stocks, both in the UK and overseas, to create bespoke portfolios to meet my client's requirements. As I look after both international and UK clients, I am used to dealing with a number of different structures including own name, ISAs, SIPPs, personal investment companies, family trusts, onshore and offshore, through utilising our UK, Guernsey and Swiss booking platforms.

My priority is to help my clients achieve their long term financial objectives. I construct and manage tailored investment portfolios that are suitable for their present and future needs, taking into account their current position, requirements, risk levels and objectives. I manage assets on behalf of private individuals, charities, trusts and personal pension schemes using Investec’s excellent in-house research team to monitor and tailor these portfolios. I will often work closely with client advisors, financial planners and accountants to ensure client objectives are met in the most tax efficient way.

I manage discretionary investment portfolios for a wide range of clients including individuals, pensions, trusts and charities. Capitalising on Investec’s extensive and well-resourced research team, I put together bespoke portfolios which are tailored according to each client’s individual requirements, taking into account factors such as attitude to risk, timeframe, goals and objectives, and any specific preferences or requirements. In addition to actively managing the portfolios, I also conduct regular review meetings with my clients in order to ensure the investments remain on track and suitable. Where appropriate, I work closely with financial planning colleagues and external advisers in professions such as tax and legal in order to provide a more holistic service.

I have had the privilege of being able to build long term relationships with my clients, and see their goals and aspirations come to fruition. I have managed portfolios with a huge variety of objectives including; generating income in retirement and maximising growth for future generations.

I currently have analyst responsibilities for listed private equity trusts, UK equity funds, Japanese equity funds, sector funds and ETFs. It is my job to identify the products in these areas which have the greatest likelihood of generating outperformance for our clients. We assess the merits of each product against our APPROVED framework which ensures the products have the size, investment philosophy, process, risk management, ESG integration, fee profile and talent to deliver alpha. The assessment involves regularly meeting fund managers and reading and producing research reports. Every investment rationale is critiqued and challenged by every analyst in the team thus ensuring decisions benefit from the whole team’s knowledge and experience.

I lead the fixed income investment team and contribute to a number of the key investment committees including Global Investment Strategy Group, Asset Allocation and Investment Committee. I am the chairman of the Fixed Income Investment Selection Committee. I advise the company on its bank lending as part of the Cash & Credit Management Committee. I work with many of the largest institutional clients of the business including insurance companies, pension funds, corporates, charities and high net worth individuals. Our clients in these areas benefit from our expertise in asset-liability matching solutions and the provision of low volatility portfolios.

Matthew Salmon

I am predominantly responsible for running private client portfolios at Investec Wealth & Investment, having worked for the Firm for well over 20 years, whilst having over 30 years’ investment experience. My clients have general investments, SIPPs, offshore bonds, ISAs, AIM stocks etc. Previously I worked for Baring Asset Management and AON Minet which ultimately merged (via Capel Cure Sharp) into Barclays Wealth, where I gained varied experience in the world of investment.

Paul Salter

I am responsible for managing portfolios for both private clients and clients of intermediaries. In the past I have primarily focussed on fund of fund portfolios as I managed the master portfolio service. However, I also have extensive knowledge of direct equities, having been a member of Investec's Stock Sector Committee, and look after a considerable number of clients who prefer to invest in listed equities. My involvement with intermediaries is growing year-on-year as this is an area that I am increasingly focussed on. I manage portfolios within a number of different investment wrappers such as offshore bonds, ISA's, AIM portfolios and pensions, and I also look after a number of personal injury trusts and charity portfolios.

I work and develop relationships with intermediaries and IFAs who are looking to outsource the investment management of their clients’ assets.

I have worked at Investec Wealth & Investment since 2009 and lead the direct fixed income process as Head of Fixed Income Solutions within the Investment Research Office (IRO). A key area of my focus is credit analysis (including financial & non-financial issuers). Working alongside the Senior Fixed Income Portfolio Director, my analysis supports the direct fixed income mandates that are centrally managed by the IRO. I also provides specialist bank credit analysis to IW&I’s internal Treasury team. I take the lead in providing fixed income strategy to the wider business and am a member of the Global Asset Allocation (GAAC) committee.

David Sylvester

I manage both professional and retail clients on an advisory and discretionary basis. My client base and outlook for investing is global and my team trades in equities, fixed income and alternatives, and uses options to enhance returns.
