About me
I manage a small team of investment managers who invest portfolios of AIM (Alternative Investment Market) shares for clients across the business. These AIM IHT Plan portfolios help clients to mitigate inheritance tax and have produced good investment returns since the Plan started in 2002. Our primary goal is to reduce the volatility of investing in this higher-risk type of shares, whilst ensuring that eligibility for inheritance tax relief is maintained. We are specialists in AIM investing, with many years of experience between us, and utilise other resources from elsewhere within Investec to ensure clients receive excellent service.
Background/Experience
Having started my career in banking, an MBA from Manchester Business School enabled me to enter the world of equity investment with venture and growth capital specialist, 3i plc. This gave me a thorough grounding in investment principles and how businesses function, and I was subsequently able to add experience of quoted markets through a senior analyst role with Charterhouse plc. This was extended through several years as a regional manager for the London Stock Exchange, after which I gained my first experience of managing AIM investments through ten years with YFM Equity Partners, managers of the British Smaller Companies VCTs. I joined the AIM division of Investec in 2014 which has enabled me to bring all of this broad range of experience to bear on generating the best outcomes for clients. I am also a Chartered Fellow of the CISI.
My interests
Now that the children have grown up and left home I am able to indulge an eclectic range of hobbies. I am Head Coach at my local canoe club and sing bass with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Choir. I am also a fair-weather motorcyclist, have recently acquired a narrowboat, and enjoy walking holidays in the Alps and Italy.
