An update from Tom Street, Managing Director at Investec Wealth & Investment
We have taken the difficult decision to physically close our offices around the UK. We are pleased however to reassure you that we remain fully operational and the steps we have taken to mobilise our business in a short time allow us to function remotely. The majority of our employees are successfully working from home and have been doing so since last week. Please continue to contact your Investment Manager either on your usual contact number or via email and they will deal with your questions or requests as normal. We know that these are extraordinary times and these measures are temporary to ensure the UK recovers as quickly as possible from the impact of the coronavirus.
It has come to our attention that there are a number of phishing scams where criminals are exploiting the current situation.
There are two scams, in particular, that we wanted to make you aware of, these originate as a text message to your mobile phone. These text messages appear as “Corona Virus” and promise a payment from HMRC or “COVID” and reference a payment from UKGOV and again offer payment relief. When clicking the links, a webpage for a fake government website is presented, which requests a significant volume of personal and banking information.
We understand that this can be extremely disconcerting and we encourage you to share this information with your friends, relatives and vulnerable members of your own community who may fall victim to these criminals.
For guidance, we have prepared an article for clients entitled ‘How to protect yourself from coronavirus scams’.
We wish you and your family well as we all learn to adapt to our new environment we are living in. Despite the uncertainty, please be assured that we are available to help you, and do feel free to speak to us if you have any concerns.
