High school programmes
Building our country's future leaders
In addition to our high school bursary programme, Investec also works with high school learners via several other vacation programmes, career exposure events and extra tuition initiatives.
Investec's flagship Promaths programme gives high school learners extra lessons in Maths and Science, while the Midlands Community College supports grade 12 learners with their studies in Maths, Science and Accounting.
From career counselling to job-shadowing and an innovative mobile career guidance hot line, Investec helps high school learners to make informed decisions about their path of study and future careers.
Investec is built on a culture of entrepreneurship and we seek to convey the importance of this to learners through our Junior Innovators academy programme.
Maths and Science programmes
In addition to our high school bursary programme, Investec also works with grade 12 learners via several other programmes to support their studies in the fields of Maths, Accounting and Science and to expose them to the working world to make the choice of what career to pursue easier.
Promaths
Promaths is an Investec-funded project aimed at supporting the South African education system to produce students that are competent in Maths and Science. The programme provides extra tuition in Maths and Science to learners in Grades 10 to 12 at selected schools across the country. Investec currently funds nine centres across the country.
Exposure to careers
In response to a broader need around career guidance and an attempt to contribute towards learners’ aspiration to study further, Investec has decided to make career guidance central to its education offering.
Career Xplora
CareerXplora is an Investec CSI initiative that was conceptualized more than 13 years ago. It is an interactive mobile career guidance platform, which aims to pave the way in educational, tertiary, and professional development for South African youth. There are no costs (other than data usage) for the learner making use of the service.
Beyond career quizzes, CareerXplora also provides updated information on subjects, tertiary institutions, student funding, qualifications, entry requirements, APS score calculations and job opportunities.
The cornerstone of CareerXplora service is its live chat feature, available through both the CareerXplora website (www.careerxplora.com) and linked WhatsApp number (057 814 5978). The live chat service operates Monday to Friday, 13:00-19:00, and Saturday’s from 09:00 to 12:00. Career counsellors are available to answer any questions and provide further support to learners.
