Tertiary Bursary FAQs

  • Who can apply?

    Applications are open to: All young SA citizens with academic potential who are in need of financial assistance.

    Pupils holding or working towards a matric exemption with a minimum of 70% in English and Mathematics (not Maths Literacy) and a 60% pass rate in all other subjects.

  • What do successful candidates get?

    Investec offers a full bursary per year towards study-related expenses. Terms and Conditions apply.

  • Why apply for an Investec bursary?

    We have a vested interest in developing well rounded individuals and in ensuring graduates are employable. While a bursary provides financial assistance, our programmes help with the transition from high school to tertiary and with the challenges associated with the job search.

  • What is Study Trust?

    Study Trust is an educational trust and public benefit organization who manage bursaries, offer mentorship and student development.  

     

    Investec works in partnership with Study Trust and by completing the online application, you will be considered for an Investec bursary and also have the opportunity to get access to other bursaries managed by Study Trust.

Out of thousands of applicants every year, between 50 and 55 are shortlisted. From those, up to 30 can be chosen for the bursary.

University Bursary Programme Participants

Rhodes University

Investec has partnered with the Commerce Extended Studies Programme (CESP) at Rhodes University that offers students, who marginally missed the University entry requirements but have academic potential, the opportunity to complete a BCom degree over four years one year longer than required.

University of the Free State

University of the Free State

Learners wishing to pursue courses in either the Economic and Management Sciences, Human and Social Sciences and Natural and Agricultural sciences faculties that fail to meet admission requirements, still have opportunities through the University Preparation Programme (UPP).

Learners on the programme can enroll for two university, credit-bearing first year courses, two further education and training courses, a compulsory course in skills and competencies in lifelong learning and a compulsory academic language course.

This bridging programme is currently offered in Bloemfontein, Bethlehem, Welkom, Sasolburg, Phuthaditjhaba, Kimberley and Oudtshoorn.

Teacher development
Bursaries for teachers in training

SAMSTIP, a partnership between Investec, ISASA and the Department of Basic Education, are offering prospective Senior and Further Education and Training (FET) teachers specialising in the fields of Mathematics and the Sciences an opportunity to win bursaries to study for a four year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree or a one year postgraduate (PGCE) certificate at UNISA.

What is included
  • Learn from and be mentored by experienced school teachers
  • Access to excellent teaching, learning resources and technology
  • Training in ISASA schools
  • Targeted academic enrichment programme
  • The bursary will fully cover, amongst others, UNISA fees and textbooks.
Who can apply?
  • School leavers with matric exemption (Bachelor pass) and 60% or more in Mathematics, Sciences (Life Science or Physical Sciences) and English
  • Tertiary students with Mathematics and Sciences (Life Science or Physical Sciences) credits
  • Graduates with Mathematics and/or Science majors.

Work Readiness Programme

Work Readiness is a week-long programme held at Investec's Sandton Office, where students participate in activities and tasks geared towards equipping them with the skills they'll require when searching for a job, and to thrive in the world of work.
Work Readiness is open to Investec CSI partner programmes and CSI bursary beneficiaries who are in their third or final year of study.

Investec bursary recipients are paired with Investec staff members who volunteer to be their mentor throughout their academic career.
