App FAQs

Here we've answered some common questions we get about our app.

If you have a question that we don't cover, please contact our team, but we'd also appreciate you telling us via our feedback form so we can improve.

  • How do I download and set-up the app?

You can download the Investec App from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store (please note the link only works on mobile devices), depending on your device type. To link the app to your account, just log in using your Investec Online username and password.

  • What is a biometric login?

Biometrics is a type of security that uses a physical feature, like a fingerprint, to verify your identity. Most modern phones have some sort of biometric capability.

For example, touch ID and face ID on a mobile phone are types of biometrics. Biometrics are more secure than using a username and password.

  • What is in-app authentication?

In-app authentication is a Two-factor Authentication (2FA) method we use to add a layer of security to the login process. It allows you to log into Investec Online using a valid Wi-Fi or network connection, from anywhere in the world, without having to activate international roaming. It reduces your risk of SIM-swap fraud on your account and it helps you to shop securely online.

  • What do I do if my device is hacked or stolen?

If your device is hacked, or a thief has accessed it, you need to tell us as soon as possible by calling 0330 123 5985 if you're in the UK, or +44 (0)20 7597 2836 if you're abroad. Find out more about reporting fraud on our fraud webpage.

You should also de-link that device from your Investec Online profile as soon as possible. Log into your Investec Online profile from another linked device, go to 'Settings' and select 'Devices', then de-link your hacked device.

  • What digital or cybersecurity measures are in place to protect my device and my money?

We are always adapting our approach to cyber security. Like most organisations that look after people’s money, we can’t share all of the ways we protect our customers, as this would potentially help fraudsters.

Below are a few of the ways we keep your account and information safe.

    • Smartphone device registration
    • Biometrics (Touch ID and facial recognition)
    • In-App authentication
    • Account suspension following three incorrect password attempts
    • Software that monitors for any malware in the banking session. If we come across malware in the session, we will call you and advise.
    • We monitor for ATO (account takeover). If we suspect that it is not you that is logging in we will call you to confirm.

You can find out more about fraud prevention on our dedicated webpage
