Investec Cape Derby win for Dettori

Frankie Dettori, widely considered one of the greatest and most charismatic jockeys of all time, passed the winning post on Edict of Nantes to win the 2000m R1 million Investec Cape Derby Gr1, in the Sun Met, celebrated with Mumm, at Kenilworth today.

The champion jockey celebrated his win of the Investec Cape Derby in true flamboyant style, with his distinctive and unique flying dismount in front of a cheering and appreciative crowd of just on 20,000.

Dettori’s mount, Edict of Nantes, bred by Klawervlei Stud and owned by Mayfair Spectaculars, gave trainer Brett Crawford his first Derby win.

The US$500,000 Cape Thoroughbred Sales race The CTS Sprit was won by Grant van Niekerk on Live Life, bred by Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm, trained by CL Bass-Robinson, and owned by Hunkydory Investments.

Another win for breeders Klawervlei Stud and was the US$500,000 CTS Mile won by jockey Anton Marcus aboard William Longsword winner of the 2016 Cape Guineas Gr1 trained by VH Marshall, owned by Mayfair Speculators.

The R1 million Klawervlei Majorca Stakes Gr1, for fillies and mares, run over 1600m and was won by Nightingale and jockey Anthony Delpeche, trained by CL Bass-Robinson and owned by Mauritzfontein.

The inaugural running of the R1 million Kuda Sprint for two-year-old graduates of the CTS Ready to Run Sales, was won by Bold Respect and jockey Corne Orffer, bred by Ascot Stud, trained by B Crawford and owned by Mrs DJ Sherrell.

Investec Ambassador, Dettori is the only jockey to have won an Investec Derby in both hemispheres, the Investec Derby, Epsom Downs, UK in 2007 and 2015, and again today at the Investec Cape Derby.
