Investec Mauritius’ approach to Corporate Social Investment focuses on education, community and environment. We believe initiatives in these three areas are the most effective way to create employment, wealth creation and socio-economic growth on the island.

Education

13%
Young people in Mauritius (16-29 years) represent 13 percent of the Mauritian labour force, yet they face the highest unemployment rate
21%
Youth unemployment is currently 21 percent which is around three times the overall unemployment rate estimated at 7.8 percent

Investec, in partnership with Curtin University provides the funding necessary to see young Mauritians with academic potential get to university. With our assistance, they can study towards financial and IT sector-related degrees at Curtin University.

An Investec bursary is so much more than funding. We are highly invested in developing well-rounded individuals so that our graduates are not only qualified but work ready too. Investec Mauritius provides our students with in-house placements in order to get work experience and potential permanent employment.

  • Community

Our primary focus is on Beau Plan and surrounding communities (given our relocation). Our aim is to have a direct impact and to make a difference, through both funding and resources (staff volunteerism etc.)

    Our new premises

Investec Mauritius recently relocated to the Beau Plan Business Park, The Strand. The Strand is part of the Mauritian government’s Smart City Scheme initiative which is designed to support the country’s economic growth through the development of innovative and smart projects and better planned urbanisation.

The developers, Novaterra’s vision, is to build sustainability within development, for a better world. The team has taken particular care to control the building density and to create a ratio of green spaces within the scheme area that is four times greater than that recommended by the WHO. As an Edge-Certified building, The Strand further exemplifies Investec's commitment to sustainability.

Guardians of Beau Plan | Sponsorship

‘Guardians of Beau Plan’ is not just an art exhibition, but a social initiative that embodies the union of art, history, and environmental consciousness. This exhibition (8 - 23 February 2024), curated by Joshila Dhaby in partnership with The Terra Group, aspires to foster community engagement and raise awareness about Mauritius’ shared natural and cultural heritage.

The exhibit explores the interconnection of human narratives with the natural world. Each piece showcases the importance of preserving our environment and understanding Mauritian cultural roots, with a focus on sustainability and education.

    The artist | Joshila Dhaby

Raised amidst the verdant tropical landscapes of Mauritius, Joshila Dhaby is not just an artist; she's a visual storyteller, ecological crusader and a social catalyst. Through a palette rich in color and sentiment, Joshila's work addresses environmental sustainability and our shared responsibilities as stewards of the planet. Her art transcends mere visual appeal, embedding itself in intellectual inquiry and emotional resonance.

Internationally recognised, her work has adorned walls and galleries in Copenhagen, Bristol, Miami, Dubai, Munich, Mauritius, Johannesburg and Ringsted.

  • Environment

Our passion is to preserve biodiversity through our conservation efforts and greening our communities, acknowledging the clear link between climate change and biodiversity loss.
