Visa Secure

Visa Secure is a service from Visa that provides an additional layer of protection when shopping online via a passcode we'll send you when you shop with participating merchant sites.

After you have entered your card details and confirmed payment at checkout, the Visa Secure screen may appear and ask you to confirm your identity. This can be completed either through your Investec Mobile App or a 'One-Time Passcode' (OTP). Once verified, you can continue with your purchase.

All Investec card holders are automatically enrolled. It is important that Investec holds your latest mobile number and that you ensure it has been registered for biometric authentication within the Investec Mobile App.

The registered mobile number is the mobile phone number that Investec has listed for you. You can check your registered mobile number through the Investec Mobile App, as well as setting up biometric authentication via your device. If you’d prefer to speak to someone about your details or require assistance to link your mobile device to the Investec Mobile App, please call the number on the back of your card.

If you're in a hurry, you can call Investec and ask us to amend your registered mobile number and our records will be updated straight away so you can continue with your purchase. Please call the number on the back of your card.

You can also update your registered mobile number through Investec Online, but this is not updated instantly.

For biometric authentication via your mobile phone, you will receive an in-app notification that will direct you to the Investec Mobile App.

In the case of a one-time passcode, a text will be sent to the registered mobile number we have listed for you. Here is a sample of the text that we send:

Do not share. If anyone calls to ask for your passcode, hang up. Your passcode is xxxxxx for payment to [MerchantName] with card ending xxxx for GBPxxxx.xx.      

You will receive either notification just after confirming payment details with an online merchant that uses Visa Secure. As good practice, when you receive the notification, check that the purchase amount and merchant name are correct. We will never ask you for your code. If anyone calls you and claims to be from Investec and asks for your code, hang up and call the number on the back of your card.
