  • Trans-Caledon Tunnel Authority (TCTA)

    Investec provided a R1.65bn term facility to TCTA for the next phase of the Vaal River system water resources development projects (VRS), including phase two of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project (LHWP-2) and servicing TCTA’s debt from LHWP-1 and acid mine drainage. 

    The LHWP is a joint venture between South Africa and Lesotho to supply water to the Vaal River system, crucial for Gauteng.

    CPV Power Plant No. 1 (Pty) Ltd

    Investec, as mandated lead arranger, partnered with Pele Green Energy to refinance its 44MWp concentrated photovoltaic (CPV) solar project in Touwsrivier, Western Cape, known as CPV Power Plant No. 1 (CPV1).     

    This transaction is notable for refinancing a JSE-listed project bond, the only REIPPPP project funded this way.

    ACWA Power Redstone CSP

    In April 2021, Investec acted as a mandated lead arranger, senior lender, hedge provider, and facility agent for the Redstone project financing. Redstone is a 100MW concentrated solar thermal power (CSP) plant under the South African Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement (REIPPP) Program. It is the first CSP with molten salt central receiver project in South Africa financed under REIPPP.

  • SOLA Scorpius

    The SOLA Scorpius Project is the first one-to-many utility scale solar PV project in South Africa to reach financial close. The 150MW power plant, which will be built near Virginia in the Free State, will connect to the national electricity network and supply power to a number of corporate off takers.

    Investec acted as joint mandated lead arranger in raising R2bn in debt funding for the landmark SOLA Scorpius Project.

    SolarSaver

    SolarSaver runs one of the largest fleets of embedded solar installations in the commercial and industrial sector across Southern Africa. SolarSaver offers capex-free solar and energy storage solutions to its clients under long-term rent-to-own or power purchase agreements and is responsible for all ongoing maintenance and management of the installations.

    Investec is the mandated lead arranger, senior lender and hedge provider to SolarSaver in South Africa and has partnered with SolarSaver in providing limited recourse funding for a portfolio of solar and battery storage projects in excess over 50MW. 

    SolarAfrica

    SolarAfrica is a renewable energy company and independent power producer, delivering projects across Southern Africa since 2011. It specialises in holistic energy solutions for commercial and industrial businesses, including solar PV, battery storage, wheeling, and electricity trading. SolarAfrica offers integrated solutions for cost savings, carbon reduction, and power security.

    Investec is the mandated lead arranger, senior lender, and hedge provider for SolarAfrica’s portfolio of embedded generation and battery storage projects.

    Koruson

    The Koruson 1 cluster includes the San Kraal, Phezukomoya, and Coleskop wind projects, each with 140MW capacity, located in Umsombomvu Local Municipality on the Eastern and Northern Cape boundary. Developed by EDF Renewables (South Africa) and local BEE partners, these projects were awarded preferred bidder status in October 2021 under round 5 of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme. Expected to be commissioned from early 2025, they will supply electricity to over 190,000 households.

    Investec acted as joint mandated lead arranger, sole hedge coordinating bank, and issued Letters of Credit to support the BEE partners’ equity contribution.
