We act at the intersection between private clients and their business interests. Investment banking is really about helping clients navigate the transactions that they looking to do either in their personal capacity but more often than not in their businesses.

Business transactions may range from mergers and acquisitions and management buyouts to empowerment transactions, raising of capital, acquiring strategic assets or disposing of non-core type of businesses. Says David, “Essentially, we facilitate significant business transactions on behalf of our private clients or established entrepreneurs in their owner-managed businesses. These are the types of people who have a very clear vision of what they want to achieve, we just bring the ‘how’ to make it a reality. Our strength is in the detail and finding solutions for our clients.”

The Private Capital team has a national footprint and has experience across several international geographies. “I believe that we have a team that is nimble and responsive, and who understand that the basis for doing business is by having excellent relationships, not only with our clients but within our internal and external networks,” says Victor Dos Reis, a dealmaker in Johannesburg. “This means that on the rare occasion that we cannot solve on behalf of our client, we probably know someone who can. And that is a real positive for our clients and for us.”

Originally created as Growth and Acquisition Finance, Private Capital has evolved as a full investment banking offering to our private clients with a team that has been fostering relationships with clients for over 20 years and has a collective 150+ years of transactional experience. “No two days are alike,” comments Grant Coppin, a dealmaker in Durban. “Because the nature of our business is so relationship focused, there is no formula or systematic approach to any business deal. Plus, we know that business decisions often come down to intuition and trust, which is why we'll take time to understand our clients and their ideas so that we can partner with them, not only to create wealth and build on their success, but to be there for the long term.”
