Structured Products
I am part of a team that designs, markets and sells a range of structured products, which offer the investor the opportunity to invest in equity indices around the world while providing capital protection should the equity markets not perform well. We also provide in some cases the ability to get geared exposure, where if the equity index increases the investor in some cases would get more than the return of just the market. i.e. in some cases the index only has to go up by 0.01% for the investor to get many times that in return.
Background/experience
I started my career in the pharmaceutical industry before I was drawn into the financial sector by the challenge of financial markets. I started out as a stockbroker at Anderson and Wilson in 1994 and moved to Standard bank as an institutional sales trader and then as head of Retail Equity Derivative Sales. In the time I have been at Investec I have held the following roles: Head of Equity Derivative Sales and desk head
Qualifications
I have a Biochemistry degree from the University of Witwatersrand, i am a member of the South African Institute of Financial Markets and served for a number of years on the JSE derivative advisory board.
What drives me
The opportunity to provide investment products that allow the ordinary investor to invest in equities, with the piece of mind that their money is protected in the event of market fluctuation. This means that many investors that would not have the risk appetite to invest in equities can now do so.
My interests
I enjoy nothing more than getting on my motorbike and going to a foreign land or remote part of South Africa. We have such an amazingly beautiful country that is made more accessible down a dirt road.
