Investec named South Africa’s Bank of the Year 2025 by The Banker

Investec has been honoured by the Financial Times’ The Banker as South Africa’s Bank of the Year for 2025, recognising its unwavering commitment to delivering the best client service through client-focused innovation, strategic growth and sustainability commitments. It marks the fourth time the institution has received this prestigious award. The ceremony was held in London on 3 December.

The Bank of the Year awards, open to licensed full-service commercial banks, retail banks, and digital lenders, are widely recognised as the benchmark for excellence in the banking industry. Earlier this year, The Banker also recognised Investec as the Best Performing Bank in the UK in its Top 1000 Global Banks ranking

These awards celebrate institutions that demonstrate strong financial results, overcome industry challenges, enhance client solutions, innovate for clients and broaden access to financial services, The judging criteria includes strategic initiatives, technological innovation, product and service development and sustainability impact – with overall winners selected based on performance, innovation, customer value and leadership within society.

“Being named South Africa’s Bank of the Year recognises the cumulative effect of a considered, long-term approach, one that extends beyond individual transactions and is rooted in building relationships that deliver meaningful benefit to our clients, our community and society,” said Fani Titi, Investec Group Chief Executive. “Our purpose to create enduring worth guides every decision we make, providing us with the clarity to navigate a rapidly changing world with confidence. This continues to guide our ambition to unlock possibility for our clients and our communities.”

Investec’s recognition this year was strengthened by several key strategic initiatives:

  • Growing international footprint: Investec has strengthened its international presence with a new office in the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), enhancing access to high-net-worth clients, family offices, and financial institutions across the GCC.
  • Next-Generation Banking Technology: The launch of Multicurrency Pockets and Intelligent Routing showcases Investec’s technology leadership in delivering seamless international banking experiences. It has transformed cross-border banking, enabling seamless global transactions through a single account and card. The technology automates currency detection, offers real-time FX conversion, and delivers instant pocket setup with unlimited rewards, setting a new standard in South African private banking.
  • Online Trading Platform: The launch of the Clarity platform empowers South Africans to invest locally and globally with transparent pricing, intuitive tools, and greater control, enhancing access to financial markets for all experience levels.
  • Sustainable Finance Commitment: Investec South Africa has committed to facilitating R74.18 billion in sustainable and transition finance by 2030 through its Sustainable and Transition Finance Framework. This forms a key part of its strategy to achieve Net-Zero emissions by 2050 while driving meaningful environmental and social impact.

In addition, Investec reinforced its impact through strategic public–private partnerships, notably by co-hosting the inaugural Sherpa and Finance Track meetings for South Africa’s G20 presidency alongside National Treasury and the Department of International Relations and Cooperation. The bank also continues to advance its commitment to education through its flagship Promaths initiative, which celebrated its 20th anniversary this year – creating enduring worth by enabling meaningful and active economic participation in young South Africans through education.

“Being named The Banker’s best bank in South Africa for 2025 is a true honour.  It reflects the trust our clients place in us and the dedication of our people. This recognition speaks to our commitment to excellence, integrity and impact. It reaffirms Investec’s distinctive position as an international bank and wealth manager, grounded in entrepreneurial spirit, deep client relationships, and purposeful growth across our Private Client and Corporate & Institutional franchises, all driven by our commitment to create enduring worth,” said Cumesh Moodliar.
