High school extra mural programmes
Developing life skills through music and sport
As part of our youth development ethos, Investec sponsors two extra mural programmes for high school learners that aim to teach valuable life skills through music and sport: the Investec Soccer League and The Field Band Foundation.
The Field Band Foundation (FBF)
The Field Band Foundation is a national holistic programme which was established in 1997 in South Africa. The concept is built on the universal youth activity known otherwise as show bands.
This discipline was chosen first for the significant presence of brass music in South African communities. Since the activity allows for large participation, most projects of the Foundation have a minimum of 125 youths, between the ages of seven (7) and twenty one (21).
The organisation operates under one fundamental goal which is youth development and the teaching of life-skills through music and dance.
Investec CSI co-sponsors the Soweto and Alexandra bands which have readily performed at selected Investec CSI events such as the Mandela Month initiative, Morpeth School visit, UMUZI photo club exhibition, the Investec Soccer League finals and more.
Investec staff members also financially contribute to the organisation through “Touch by giving”, a CSI initiative which offers Investec staff members a platform to make a monthly contribution, directly from their salaries, to a pre – selected list of charities.
Investec Soccer League celebrates 10 years of changing lives
The Investec Soccer League is a sponsorship of 20 high schools in Soweto, benefiting 360 learners in grades 8 - 12, under the age of 21. It was first piloted in 2008 as the brain-child of Investec Corporate Social Investment and is fully endorsed by the Gauteng Department of Education.
This year the Investec Soccer League celebrates 10 years of existence.
