Our role

Our UK Energy & Infrastructure Finance team is pleased to have partnered with Fidra Energy, an EIG-owned platform, to deliver senior debt facilities for the financing of Thorpe Marsh, a landmark battery energy storage project in the UK.

This transaction represents a groundbreaking achievement, with nearly £1bn of funding secured from global investors and lenders. The project will transform a former coal-fired site into a clean energy hub that will supply power to over 785,000 homes and directly support the UK’s net zero ambitions.

Our support builds on a long-standing relationship with EIG, having partnered with them on several strategically significant transactions since 2021.

About Fidra Energy

Fidra Energy is a new energy storage platform with a 3.1 GW secured pipeline. Its management team previously led West Burton Energy, which they successfully sold to Total Energies. The team has a strong track record of developing, operating, and commercialising flexible generation. Fidra is wholly owned by EIG, a long-standing Investec client.

About Thorpe Marsh

Thorpe Marsh will be the UK’s largest battery storage facility, with a capacity of 1,400 MW / 3,100 MWh, and among the largest in Europe. Expected to be operational from mid-2027, it will be three times larger than any other battery energy storage project currently in operation or under construction in the UK.
