Our role

Our UK Energy & Infrastructure Finance team is pleased to continue our support of Pulse Clean Energy Limited and their ambitions in growing their UK battery storage (BESS) portfolio by enhancing our commitment through an upsized facility. The facility not only refinances existing debt, but also provides a capital expenditure line to facilitate the construction of pipeline projects and potential acquisitions. In addition to the financing, we also offered interest rate hedging solutions, further supporting Pulse in achieving its strategic objectives.

Our team has a strong relationship with Pulse, having been an existing lender since their initial financing in 2023. As management sought to further develop this partnership, Investec were well-positioned to leverage our deep knowledge of Pulse’s portfolio and the wider UK and European energy market to support the company’s growth ambitions.

Pulse, owned by the Investment Management Corporation of Ontario (IMCO), specializes in the development, construction, and operation of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in the UK. These systems are essential for increasing the uptake of intermittent renewable energy by balancing supply and demand, ensuring that clean energy is reliably and affordably available.

Pulse is actively investing in sustainability by decommissioning nine diesel generation sites to repurpose them as battery storage and energy optimization assets. With the support of Investec, Pulse Clean Energy has established itself as a leading developer and operator of battery storage in the UK, with a planned operational capacity of over 2GWh by 2030.
