What approach does Investec Wealth & Investment take to wealth management?

Nick: We want to equip clients to fulfil their needs and aspirations at every life stage and we do this through building long-term, personal relationships with individuals and their families, and by bringing together financial planning and investment management.

Hannah: By taking a holistic approach, we can provide a clear picture of the current financial situation and highlight potential opportunities to protect and grow wealth in a tax-efficient way. We also work with charities and organisations.

What kind of financial issues can you help navigate?

Hannah: On a day-to-day basis we help clients navigate their career paths and retirement; grow or exit businesses; manage their family wealth or pass wealth on to the next generation.

We do this by exploring a wide range of options including ISAs, pensions, onshore and offshore bonds, annuities, investment trusts and Venture Capital Trusts (VCTs).

While every situation is different, it’s never too early or too late to review financial circumstances with a specialist. Our teams work with individuals from different backgrounds and professions... and this means we’re familiar with complex structures or incomes and the challenges they can present.

How are you helping clients to navigate current economic volatility?

Nick: We have engaged relationships with our clients and this means we can maintain an open dialogue and share insight and access to our investment strategy team.
From an investment perspective, we monitor our portfolios closely to make sure that we’re maintaining appropriate levels of risk at all times.

Hannah: Understandably, many clients are concerned about inflation erosion of their cash, as well as rising interest rates and this is where having full financial visibility can give peace of mind. Where appropriate we’re also connecting clients to other specialists in the business including the Investec private and corporate banking teams for lending and FX support.

Sustainability and the ESG process is growing in prominence. How is this integrated into your work?

Nick: We embed environmental, social and governance considerations into our investment processes to identify threats to investments over time. We also work with the funds and companies we invest in to ensure they are operating in a way that contributes positively to society and the environment, which is reflected in the fact that we are signatories of the UK Stewardship Code.

We also ensure our own operations are aligned – our company purpose is ‘to create enduring worth, living in society, not off it’.

We can usually transfer existing holdings over in their current form, to manage any time out of the market and tax considerations.

How complex is it to start the wealth management process or change provider?

Hannah: While every situation is different, it’s never too early or too late to review financial circumstances with a specialist.

Our teams work with individuals from different backgrounds and professions – which includes a focus on entrepreneurs – and this means we’re familiar with complex structures or incomes and the challenges they can present.

Nick: From an investment point of view, we can usually transfer existing holdings over in their current form, to manage any time out of the market and tax considerations. We are on-hand to support the transition. If you are interested in the possibilities open to you, we’re here to help.
