Investec granted EU License by European Central Bank and Central Bank of Ireland

European license extends Investec’s ability to serve clients across the region.

Investec, a leading international bank and wealth manager, confirms that it has received notice from the European Central Bank (ECB) and the Central Bank of Ireland (CBI) that it has been granted an EU banking license.  The subsidiary company, based in Dublin, will be named Investec Bank Europe (IBE) and will serve as Investec’s hub for the wider Investec Group’s EU lending operations, complementing its EU regulated treasury solutions (derivatives) and equities distribution operations which have been well-established in Ireland since 2000.*1

In recent years, Investec has invested in expanding its franchise in Continental Europe, including strengthening its pan-European advisory capabilities through the acquisition of a majority stake in, what was at that time known as Capitalmind,*2 which has since rebranded to Investec. We have also grown our private markets lending activities and treasury solutions business in the EU, whilst continuing to develop cross-border corporate and institutional client relationships.

The award of an EU banking licence builds on this long-established presence and provides a platform to further support clients across the European Union and aligns our regulatory oversight with our existing lending activities in the EU and our growth aspirations.

Fani Titi, Investec Group Chief Executive, said: “The European banking licence represents a significant strategic development for Investec, extending our ability to serve our clients across the region. It builds on our current investment programme to broaden our proposition and capabilities for mid-market corporates and high-net-worth private clients, creating a stronger platform for growth.”
