Investec hires Head of Industrials M&A to bolster growing Advisory Team

Investec Bank plc (Investec) has today announced the appointment of Marc Potel as Head of Industrials M&A. The new hire will support the growth of Investec’s European M&A footprint, which has expanded from 20 to 120 people over the past five years.

Marc Potel

Marc joins Investec from Jefferies, where he spent five years as Head of General Industrials EMEA. He brings almost 30 years’ worth of experience within financial services – having previously held Managing Director roles at Nomura, Richmond Park Partners, Citigroup and KPMG.

He will also bring expert knowledge of the industrials sector, having worked on more than 50 deals with a transaction value in excess of $50bn.

Marc will oversee Investec’s advisory activities on the buying and selling of companies in the industrials sector, including aerospace & defence, automotive, building products, capital goods, chemicals, industrial services and packaging. Key themes include energy efficiency/transition, industrial automation and technology and sustainability.

Jonathan Arrowsmith, Head of UK M&A at Investec, said: “Our M&A advisory team has gone from strength to strength in recent years, working on landmark deals such as the sale of Vanarama to Auto Trader Group plc and of Incubeta to Carlyle Group. Marc’s appointment will enhance our sector expertise and allow us to continue developing our presence in the industrials market. With a strong pipeline of deals across the team, we look forward to continuing our growth in 2023.”

Investec’s global M&A team consists of more than 150 people – all with deep sector knowledge in their respective fields, which span technology, media & telecoms, business services, financial services, healthcare, energy, consumer, and industrials.

Headquartered in London, it has an international presence in Africa (South Africa), Asia (India and China), Europe (Ireland, France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Germany and Switzerland) and America (USA). This global presence means the bank has a strong understanding of activity in major markets and enjoys access trade buyers and financial investors from around the globe.

In 2021 Investec entered into a strategic transaction with Capitalmind Group, one of Europe’s leading independent mergers & acquisitions and corporate finance advisory firms. The deal saw Investec acquire a significant minority stake in Capitalmind and has strengthened its European M&A footprint.
