Investec partners with Protean Capital LLP to launch structured product fund

Following Investec Structured Products’ success in the UK retail market, the business has partnered with Protean Capital LLP to launch a structured product fund into the retail market: the VT Protean Capital ELDeR Fund (‘ELDeR Fund’).

The ELDeR Fund provides investors with the benefits of the defined returns of structured products but in a unitised, open-ended UCITS format.

The ELDeR Fund is intended to provide consistent income in a wide range of market conditions, with the potential for growth over the long term. The ELDeR Fund aims to achieve this by investing in structured products issued by global financial institutions, transferable securities, financial derivative instruments and government bonds.

Investec’s Harris Gorre commented:

“This fund, designed for and distributed by Investec, gives retail investors a product with the risk and return characteristics that have made structured products so popular, in an open ended format. Investors have daily access to their investment, and the Investment Manager has flexibility to manage the fund’s risk and minimise the fund’s transaction costs, both of which improve performance.”

The ELDeR Fund has been developed to have a stable risk profile and maintain a risk rating of low to medium.

Most structured product funds typically hold autocall-style structured products in order to target a defined return. However, the ELDeR Fund focusses on managing risk and achieving a consistent income by holding a diversified, defensive range of income style structured products and instruments. By focussing on risk over returns, the ELDeR Fund aims to deliver consistent income and long term capital growth for clients in a broad range of market conditions.

Harris continued: “We are constantly working to improve our products and services. Our Investec for Advisers online platform now accounts for the majority of all direct individual investments with paperless onboarding and digital signatures, and this fund further raises the bar for what advisers and investors can expect from structured products.”

The ELDeR Fund’s A Share Class was launched in 2017 and is only available to institutional investors. The Fund’s new I Share Class was launched in 2020 and is available to UK retail investors. Income generated by the Fund will be distributed (I Share Class - Income) or reinvested (I Share Class - Accumulation) on a quarterly basis.

The ELDeR Fund I Share Class is eligible for direct, ISA, pension and offshore bond investments on all major investment platforms.
