MEET THE CLIENT
Flexible funding to support a growing logistics group
Founded in 2009 by Hussein Ahmed, Transmode Logistics has grown significantly since inception. Headquartered in Felixstowe, the Transmode Group comprises four UK-based logistics businesses. GTG Logistics and Walton Transport Logistics were both established in 2023, alongside directors Hussein met through the industry, while Velocity Haulage Services was added more recently.
The group provides flexible haulage solutions for a broad range of customers, including international shipping lines, freight forwarders, and major retailers, and specialises in moving containers from major UK ports, including Felixstowe, Southampton, Seaforth, and London Gateway, to inland destinations across the country.
THE CHALLENGE
Securing a flexible new working capital partner at short notice.
Transmode previously had a factoring facility with a finance provider that was exiting the UK market. As a result, it had just four months to secure a replacement funding partner, creating a tight timeframe to transition to a new facility without disrupting trading or working capital availability.
With four businesses operating under a single group structure, and further acquisitions planned, Transmode needed a funding solution that could provide visibility across all entities with the ability to allocate working capital precisely where needed. The haulage industry is facing increasing cost pressures, including fuel, drivers, and subcontractors for container movements, and managing cash flow across the group requires both clear oversight and flexibility.
The delivery from the Investec team has been excellent. They take a genuine interest in the business and resolve our queries instantly, and their technology provides a single, clear view of funding availability. If one company is growing rapidly, we can prioritise working capital to support that growth.
THE SOLUTION
Intelligent real-time allocation of capital.
After reviewing the options available, the quality of Investec’s relationship-driven approach and Intelligent Cashflow platform both stood out. The Intelligent Cashflow platform integrates directly with the group’s accounting systems, enabling the automated extraction of sales ledger data. This removes the need for manual uploads and reduces administrative workload, while giving directors real-time visibility to support faster and more informed decision-making.
Investec structured and delivered a Confidential Invoice Discounting facility at an 85% advance rate that covered all four group businesses. The facility functions as a unified group arrangement: one overall funding limit that can flex between businesses, providing funding where it’s most needed at any time. This means that when one part of the group is growing rapidly, the facility can support it accordingly. Founder Hussein Ahmed could immediately see the time savings the technology would generate and the value of having full group-wide visibility of funding availability.
We chose Investec after meeting the team. Their technology platform and the visibility it gave us across the group were important in terms of how we would run things day to day. Overall, there was a gut feeling that this was the right fit compared to other options in the market.
THE OUTCOME
Full funding visibility sets the foundation for future growth plans.
With the group facility in place, Transmode has the confidence and financial foundation to pursue its growth ambitions, including further acquisitions, and to act on new opportunities as they arise. Funding availability is now fully visible across each business, queries are handled quickly, and the administrative burden has been substantially reduced. For a business with clear ambitions to grow, having a funding partner that understands the group structure and can scale alongside it, has made a material difference.
