How can you earn Rewards points?

As an Investec client with an Individual Account or Business Account, you’re automatically registered for the Investec Rewards programme. No minimum qualifying criteria apply, and there are no hidden fees.
There is no limit on the number of Rewards points you can earn.
The Rewards points you earn from 1 March 2016 onwards will be valid for three years from the date it’s allocated. For example, Rewards points you earn on 14 March 2016 will be valid until 14 March 2019 and will expire on your statement date in March 2019. Rewards points earned before March 2016 will not expire.

Please note that you do not earn Rewards points for ATM withdrawals.

Rewards terms and conditions

  • 1 Participation in the Rewards Programme

    1.1 Investec shall be entitled to determine eligibility for the Rewards Programme. To be eligible for the Rewards Programme, each account must be registered separately.
    1.2 Only an account holder whose account is open and in good standing (and not in arrears or in excess of any applicable credit limit or otherwise in breach of the agreement) shall be entitled to participate in the Rewards Programme.
    1.3 Any extra cards issued in respect of an account will be included in the Rewards Programme and all points earned for eligible transactions effected on the extra card/s accrue to the account holder and shall be automatically deemed to have been earned by the account holder and allocated accordingly.
    1.4 Investec may, in its sole discretion without affecting any rights it may have, cancel, revoke or suspend the participation in the Rewards Programme if the account is closed, cancelled, revoked or suspended by Investec or the account holder for any reason whatsoever, or if the account is in arrears or if the account holder is in breach of the provisions of the agreement.
    1.5  Investec reserves the right to cancel the Rewards Programme in its entirety upon 3 months’ notice to the account holder. Investec shall give the account holder notification of such cancellation by any means of communication, including mail, statement, facsimile, e-communication or through any other medium that Investec may deem fit. All points earned by the account holder up until the date of cancellation will be redeemable for a period of 3 years thereafter. Alternatively, at Investec's election, the cash value of such points may be paid to the account holder.
    1.6 Investec shall not act nor shall it be deemed to be acting as the account holder’s agent nor as the agent of any partner.
    1.7 Copyright in all materials made available through the Rewards Programme is owned either by Investec and/or the partners and protected by both national and international intellectual property laws. Accordingly, any unauthorised copying, reproduction, retransmission, distribution, dissemination, sale, publication, broadcast or other circulation or exploitation of any such material will constitute an infringement of that copyright. The trademarks, logos and service marks displayed relating to the Rewards Programme are registered and unregistered trademarks of Investec and/or the partners. Nothing contained in the Rewards Programme should be construed as granting any license or right to use any trademark, logos or service marks without the written permission of Investec and/or the partners.
    1.8 Otherwise than as required by applicable law, Investec shall not be responsible for issuing any tax or other certification, clarification or directive to the account holder or the partner or any third party or be responsible for any tax liability or other Government charge arising from the Rewards Programme. Should the account holder donate points to any partner which is a charitable or other institution, the account holder acknowledges that taxable benefit will not necessarily be derived in making such donation.
    1.9 If there is any conflict between these terms and conditions and any other terms, rules, regulations or procedures applicable to the Rewards Programme, these terms and conditions shall prevail.
    1.10 The account holder waives any rights against Investec arising directly or indirectly from any loss or damage of whatsoever nature, which may be suffered as a result of the Rewards Programme, the redemption of points, any reward or voucher or matter incidental thereto or the acts or omissions of any partner and agrees that Investec is not responsible for any death or injury or direct or consequential loss or damage (including loss of profits or data) arising from the Rewards Programme.
    1.11 The account holder accepts that Investec may in its sole and absolute discretion from time to time amend, replace or substitute the Rewards Programme, or suspend any of the partners or any aspect thereof or the terms and conditions relating thereto despite such action affecting points already accumulated. Investec shall give notification of such amendment by any means of communication, including mail, statement, facsimile, e-communication or through any other medium that Investec may deem fit.
    1.12 The cardholder agrees and consents thereto that by participating in the Rewards Programme, Investec or its partners in the Rewards Programme may in its sole discretion send marketing and promotional information relating to the Rewards Programme to the cardholder and such information shall not be considered unsolicited. The cardholder has the right to request that Investec not send any such information.
    1.13 Any communication contained on the website will be deemed to be sufficient communication or notice relating to the Rewards Programme and shall be binding on the cardholder.
  • 2 Earning points

    2.1 Points may only be earned and accumulated with effect from the date the accountholder registers for the Rewards Programme in respect of a particular account ("effective date"). Investec will not be obliged to award points for eligible transactions effected prior to the effective date.
    2.2 The account holder will earn point/s for every eligible transaction, at a rate determined by Investec and notified to the account holder on the website, subject to 2.3 below.
    2.3 Investec reserves the right at its election to refuse to record or honour and to cancel or reverse any points earned or accumulated if:
    2.3.1 The points were awarded in error and/or accumulated as a result of fraud or pursuant to any illegal, ineligible or unauthorized transaction;
    2.3.2 An eligible transaction has not been fully settled or if an eligible transaction has been reversed or refunded;
    2.3.3 The account is not in good standing as contemplated in 1.2 above;
    2.3.4 Participation in the Rewards Programme is cancelled, revoked or suspended in terms of 1.4 above.
    2.4 If points are cancelled, reversed or for any reason become void, the account holder shall not be compensated therefor and such points shall not be redeemed.
    2.5 Points reflected on the account holder statement shall be valid for a period of 3 years from the date of such statement, subject to 1.5 above.
    2.6 Points earned will be reflected in the account holder’s statement within 3 months from the date upon which any eligible transaction is effected. In the event that points are not reflected within this period, the account holder is obliged to contact Investec to request that points are credited. If Investec receives no written objection concerning the allocation of points within 90 days of the date of a statement, any eligible transaction and allocation of points reflected in such statement shall be deemed to have been approved and ratified by the account holder.
  • 3 Redeeming points

    3.1 Points earned and accumulated in respect of eligible transactions may be redeemed for rewards, provided the account is in good standing as contemplated in 1.2 above.
    3.2 The account holder shall not be entitled to countermand, cancel or amend any redemption request once received and/or effected by Investec (whichever event is the earlier), without Investec’s prior written consent and assistance.
    3.3 The account holder shall not be entitled to reverse, exchange, barter, sell or claim any refund, reward or voucher, nor shall the account holder be entitled to convert any reward or voucher back into points for any reason whatsoever, regardless of whether the reward and/or voucher has not been used or has expired.
    3.4 The account holder shall bear all risk and liability for any reward or voucher received in terms of the Rewards Programme and to the extent that there is any dispute regarding any reward or voucher, such dispute must be settled between the relevant partner and the account holder directly.
    3.5 Rewards are subject to availability and in accordance with such restrictions, limitations, rules, procedures, charges or exclusions as may be applicable in respect thereof from time to time. All reservations and/or other arrangements relating to the reward must be confirmed directly with the partner and the account holder shall be obliged to comply with the partner’s reward terms and conditions with effect from the redemption date. The account holder shall be solely responsible to ensure that he or she is familiar with the reward terms and conditions of all partners and for any cost, charge or expense incurred pursuant to the redemption of points in terms of the Rewards Programme.
    3.6 The number of points required for a reward may be varied from time to time by Investec in its sole discretion by reasonable prior notice.
    3.7 The account holder accepts that Investec will not be obliged to redeem any points that have been earned or accumulated in respect of any eligible transaction, if the redemption request is made after revocation, termination, closure, suspension or cancellation in terms of clause 16.
  • 4 Transferring points

    4.1 The account holder may transfer points at Investec's discretion to such third parties as Investec may determine from time to time.
  • 5. Fees

    Subject to the provisions of any applicable law, Investec shall be entitled to charge and recover a fee to participate in the Rewards Programme. In such event, the account holder hereby authorises Investec, at its discretion, to debit the account with the fee (including any value-added tax) applicable from time to time. Investec shall, after giving the account holder reasonable notice by letter, statement, publication on the website and/or advertisement in the media (except where legislation requires an immediate change in the fee), be entitled to vary the fee from time to time. If any such fee variation is published on the website it shall be binding from the date of such publication. The account holder may be charged for individual services, on an ad hoc basis per service. Investec shall also be entitled to charge and recover an administration fee in relation to a particular service provided within the Rewards Programme. Such administration fee will be communicated to the account holder prior to the service being provided. In such event, Investec is hereby authorised, at its discretion, to debit the account with the fee (including any value-added tax) applicable from time to time.

    What does it mean if my Investec Rewards account is suspended?
    Your Investec Rewards account will be suspended if your Investec Private Bank Account or your Investec Private Business Account is not in good standing (eg in arrears) at the time of your monthly statement run.
    While in arrears, your Rewards points balance will not be available for redemption and you will not earn Rewards points on your relevant expenditure.
    How do I earn Rewards points?
    You earn Rewards points when you use your Investec Visa card online or in-store.
    You will earn:
    • One Rewards point for every R5 you spend on your Investec Visa card, online and in-store
    • One Rewards point for every R5 you spend on a vehicle sourced through McCarthy Call-a-Car and financed through Investec Private Bank (up to 200 000 points) or paid by EFT from a Private Bank Account
    • 1.5 Rewards points for every R5 you spend on your Investec Visa card at Travel by Investec (online or with a travel consultant)
    • Two Rewards points for every R5 you spend on your Investec Visa card at selected retail stores
    Do I earn Rewards points for ATM withdrawals?
    You do not earn Rewards points for ATM withdrawals.
    Is there a limit on the number of Rewards points I can earn?
    There is no limit on the number of Rewards points you can earn per billing cycle.
    Does expenditure on extra cards issued against my Investec Private Bank Account and my Investec Private Business Account qualify for Rewards points?
    Yes. These Rewards points will accrue to you as you are the account holder or the extra account holder, whichever is applicable.
    Does the expenditure on my Investec UK Private bank account qualify for Rewards points?
    No. The expenditure on your Investec UK Private bank account does not qualify for Rewards points.
    When do I start earning Rewards points?
    You will earn Rewards points on relevant expenditure from the first statement run on your Investec Private Bank Account or Investec Private Business Account.
    If I make a purchase today, when will these Rewards points be awarded to me?
    Rewards points will be awarded to you in the same month that the purchase appears on your monthly Investec Private Bank Account or Investec Private Business Account statement.
    Where can I see how many Rewards points I have earned?
    You may view the Rewards points that you have earned on your monthly Investec Private Bank Account statement. You can also see your Rewards points balance by logging into Investec Online Banking.
    Are there cases where I can lose my Rewards points?
    Your Rewards points will be reversed if:
    • The Rewards points were awarded in error and/or accumulated as a result of fraud or any illegal, ineligible or unauthorised transaction
    • An eligible transaction is not fully settled or if an eligible transaction is reversed or refunded

    If I have more than one Investec Private Bank Account, can I redeem both sets of Rewards points?
    You can, if both Investec Private Bank Accounts are in your name. To redeem your Rewards points, call the Investec Global Client Support Centre on +27 11 286 9663 or 0860 110 161.
    Can I transfer Rewards points to another person’s Investec Private Bank Account?
    You can transfer your Rewards points to another person’s Investec Private Bank Account, if the Investec Private Bank Accounts are within the same immediate family, ie parents, wife, husband, children and siblings, subject to Investec’s approval.
    My spouse and I each have an Investec Private Bank Account. Can we use both of our Rewards points to redeem?
    Yes. We will need authorisation from you and your spouse to enable us to redeem using both sets of Rewards points.
    Can I cancel a redemption once I have received my vouchers?
    No, unfortunately not.
    What is the validity period of electronic vouchers?
    On redeeming your Rewards points, we will SMS you an electronic voucher within 48 hours to the mobile number we have for you on record, or you can enter an alternative mobile number.
    Electronic vouchers are valid for three years from receipt of your SMS. You will forfeit any expired vouchers and these cannot be converted back into Rewards points.
    Can I use my Investec card while travelling?
    Secure chip and PIN technology protects your Investec Visa card and it is welcome at millions of Visa retail outlets, globally.

    Which airlines are part of this collection?
    With Travel by Investec, you have access to directly negotiated rates for flights departing from South Africa with our airline partners, including British Airways, Singapore Airlines, Emirates, Etihad Airways, Turkish Airlines, Virgin, Qantas, Mango, El Al Airways and many more.
    Is there a limit on the number of flights I can book with the Global Airline Collection?
    You can book as many flights as you want, for anybody you want – just use your Investec Visa card to make payment.
    Can I earn frequent flyer miles with Travel by Investec?
    You can earn frequent flyer miles with your choice of airline, while earning Rewards points with Travel by Investec at the same time, at a preferential rate.
    What is the Global Hotel and Safari Lodge Collection?
    Through Travel by Investec, you can now book local and international accommodation at a select range of international hotels, safari lodges and boutique hotels and enjoy savings of up to 30%.
    Must the accommodation be for leisure only?
    You will have access to our various partner programmes and rewards benefits, you can book accommodation for leisure or business travel, the choice is yours.
    Can I hire a car?
    Booking a hire car, locally or internationally, could not be easier, just specify the car you are looking for and Travel by Investec will find it for you at the best possible rate (up to a saving of 40%) at one of the top rental agencies. Standard waiver and super waiver options are available.
    What are the benefits of booking a hire car locally through Travel by Investec?
    When booking a hire car locally through Travel by Investec, you also have exclusive access to the following benefits:

    Do I earn Rewards points through Travel by Investec?
    You earn 1.5 Rewards points for every R5 you spend (the usual rate is one point for every R5) on your Investec Visa card at Travel by Investec.
    Can I redeem Rewards points through Travel by Investec?
    You can redeem your Rewards points at a preferential rate with Travel by Investec and use these points to pay for, or reduce, the cost of your travel - holiday packages, flights, accommodation, car hire and travel insurance.
    You can choose to either redeem towards 50% of your booking amount or 100% of your booking amount. If you do not have sufficient points for the full 50% or 100%, the maximum amount possible against your request will be redeemed in increments of 5 000 Rewards points.
    What if I do not have enough Rewards points to cover the full cost of my redemption request?
    If you do not have enough Rewards points, you can redeem a maximum increment of 5 000 Rewards points.
    How long does it take for the cash rebate to reflect in my account from the time of redemption?
    Your travel redemption rebate will reflect in your account within 48 hours of your booking.
    Can I use Travel by Investec if I have a Business Account?
    If you’re an Investec client with a Business Account, you are also entitled to the travel rewards with Travel by Investec.
    You also have access to a specialist Travel by Investec account manager to help you organise your business travel needs, for example a conference, or incentive trip, both locally and internationally.
    How do I get in touch with Travel by Investec?
    When you have found the perfect holiday, you can make your booking online with Travel by Investec www.travelbyinvestec.co.za or call 0861 000 897 to speak to an experienced travel consultant.
    The consultant can also advise you regarding your visa applications.
    Can I ask the travel consultant to do the booking for me? If so, what information do I need to give?
    Yes you can. Please provide the agent with the following information:
    • Your dates of departure and return. If you have preferences as to airline, times and stopovers
    • Preference to low cost carriers or not
    • Do you require accommodation or car hire and any preferences within this
    • Frequent Flyer numbers
    • Special requests, e.g. meals, seating, baby seats etc.
    If I don't want to disclose my card details on the Travel by Investec website, can I make an EFT instead and still earn points?
    To earn the Rewards points you have to make the payment using your Investec Visa card. The site is secure for credit card details. EFTs are not accepted when making payment.
    How do I cancel or change a booking?
    To cancel or change a booking, you can call Travel by Investec. Terms and conditions do apply. For any changes you make to your booking, you will be charged an amendment fee. You might have to pay in full for a cancellation of an airline ticket, car hire or hotel booking.
    Where can I retrieve my Travel by Investec reference number or booking information if I have misplaced it?
    You can call Travel by Investec and request it to be sent to you.
    Do I still qualify for automatic travel insurance?
    As long as you are paying with your Investec Visa card you qualify for automatic travel insurance.
    Can I make bookings for other people using my Investec Visa card?
    Yes, you can make bookings for other travellers by using your Investec Visa card details. Your request may be verified by a travel consultant.
    Can tickets and bookings be transferred to someone else if I change my mind about travelling?
    No, tickets and bookings cannot be transferred to someone else. The booking would have to be amended or cancelled. Please note, cancellation and amendment fees will apply.

    Do I get complimentary travel insurance?
    When buying international travel tickets with your Investec Visa card for trips starting and ending in South Africa, you receive complimentary travel insurance cover for a travel period up to 90 days.
    Who qualifies for this travel insurance?
    You receive complimentary travel insurance cover for anyone you have bought international travel tickets for (e.g., spouse, children, family and friends, under 80 years of age). It covers medical emergencies and related expenses as well as personal accidents.
    All travellers that are not Investec card holders, share the complimentary travel insurance cover.
    For Business accounts, business associates also qualify for the travel insurance.
    The only requirements are that all tickets must be bought using an Investec Visa card and the international trip must start and end in South Africa.
    Is this travel insurance all-inclusive?
    The complimentary insurance has certain limitations and/or exclusions. For example, pre-existing medical conditions, sport or adventure activities and inconvenience will not be covered.

    Yes. Whether you are a leisure or a business international traveller, you can apply for visas using an easy and comprehensive travel visa service through Travel by Investec and MDS VisaPak.
    Who is MDS VisaPak?
    MDS VisaPak is a specialist visa acquisition services company that focusses on short-term business and holiday visas (any visa that has a stay of 90 days or less). Its experienced staff works closely with various embassies to obtain visas to worldwide destinations on short notice.
    What services do they offer?
    MDS VisaPak services offered through Travel by Investec include:
    • Loading online visa applications on your behalf where required
    • Paying upfront for visas
    • Collecting of documents
    • Checking and preparing the application
    • Making the submission appointment on your behalf
    • Meeting and assisting you at the embassy
    • Collecting of the passport from the embassy
    • Delivering the passport to you
    What is the difference between visa validity and duration?
    On your visa, you will note an issuance date and an expiration date. The time between these two dates is referred to as your visa validity dates. You can travel to that specific country during this time.
    Once you arrive at your destination, the visa duration is the maximum permitted stay in that country according to your visa.
    How do I request MDS VisaPak services?
    To use these services, visit Travel by Investec to obtain a quote online, which will include the visa requirements and application form. Alternatively, contact a Travel by Investec travel consultant by calling 0861 000 897 for a quote.
    If you need any assistance during the preparation of the documents, your travel consultant will put you in contact with a MDS VisaPak assistant who will take over the visa process.
    How long must my passport still be valid for to apply for a visa?
    To apply for a visa, most countries require that your passport must be valid for at least six months after your scheduled return to South Africa.
    If you are getting a multiple entry visa, and your passport expires soon, you should consider getting your passport renewed first. Once your passport expires, most visas in this passport will no longer be valid.
    Do I need to send in my actual passport?
    Yes, for most countries you need to submit your passport so the visa may be stamped on one of the blank pages.
    Is there a service fee?
    Over and above the cost of the visa, MDS VisaPak charges a service fee, per visa application, per person. As an Investec client, you qualify for a 20% discount on this service fee. The quote you will receive will factor this discount in already.
    If you live outside major city centres, MDS VisaPak can arrange a courier to collect the required forms and documents from you for an additional fee.
    How do I pay?
    Through Travel by Investec, you can pay for MDS VisaPak services with your Investec Visa card only.
    Can I redeem my Rewards points to pay for this service?
    Yes. You can redeem your Rewards points to pay for, or reduce, the cost of this service if you pay Travel by Investec with your Investec Visa card.

    Is flight information available in the lounge?

    How do I get the voucher?

    How long are vouchers valid for?
    Electronic vouchers are valid for three years from receipt of your SMS. You will forfeit any expired vouchers and these will not be converted back into Rewards points.

    Can I pay my monthly Private Bank Account fee with Rewards points?
    You can use your Rewards points to cover your monthly transactional banking fee. Simply call the Investec Global Client Support Centre to activate this option.
    Is this process automatic?
    For every month you have sufficient Rewards points to cover the monthly account fee, we will debit the points automatically from your Rewards account. You will then receive a credit into your Investec Private Bank Account to the value of your account fee.
    What if I do not have enough Rewards points to cover my monthly fee?
    For the months that you do not have sufficient Rewards points to redeem towards your monthly fee, you will not receive the credit into your Private Bank Account. These Rewards points will carry over for, and can be used as part of, the following month’s redemption.
    If you have surplus Rewards points after your fee redemption, you can redeem these points at another partner.
     
    Unit trusts
    Can I redeem Rewards points for unit trusts?
    You can redeem your Rewards points for a selection of onshore unit trusts, purchased from Investec Asset Management.
    Are there any minimum requirements?
    You can redeem your Rewards points online for unit trusts if you have an existing Investec Asset Management unit trust account number with a minimum Investment holding balance of R10 000 or if you set up a recurring minimum monthly debit order of R500.
    Active debit order investors are exempt from the minimum holding balance requirement if the debit order remains active.
    If I want to redeem my Rewards points for unit trusts, how long will it take before my unit trusts become available to me?
    Your unit trust investment will reflect in your account within five working days. These unit trusts will be available to you in 10 working days from the date of the deposit, which is the standard clearance period on purchases.
