FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
  • What is an energy trading licence?

An energy trading licence is issued by the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA). The Energy Regulation Act (ERA) states that any entity that buys and sells electricity must hold an electricity trading licence. The licence therefore allows the licence holder to aggregate energy from different renewable energy sources for sale to multiple customers. Energy trading enables customers to access renewable energy without capital outlay giving clients more choice, flexibility, strong balance sheet and cost savings.

  • What is wheeling?

Wheeling is the delivery of energy to the grid on behalf of a client located in another area through the use of an existing transmission or distribution network.

  • Who would benefit from this offering?

Businesses that aim to reduce energy costs, improve operational resilience and meet sustainability targets.
