Our role

Investec underwrote R1 billion in senior debt facilities and provided integrated interest-rate and foreign-exchange hedging solutions as part of the R2 billion financing package for SolarAfrica Energy (Pty) Ltd’s SunCentral 3 project. The funding will support the construction and operation of a 114 MW solar PV project in the Northern Cape, forming part of SolarAfrica’s 1 GW utility-scale solar PV rollout in the province.

Building on Investec’s involvement in SunCentral 1 and SunCentral 2, this financing supports the next phase of the SunCentral renewable energy development and reinforces Investec’s commitment to enabling large-scale private sector investment in South Africa’s energy sector.

Upon reaching commercial operation, expected in November 2027, SunCentral 3 will supply electricity under power purchase agreements to a diversified group of offtakers. The project’s multi-offtaker structure supports the continued development of South Africa’s competitive electricity market by broadening participation among electricity buyers.

SunCentral 3 advances South Africa's energy transition and supports Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 7, Affordable and Clean Energy, and SDG 13, Climate Action.

Collectively, SunCentral 1, SunCentral 2 and SunCentral 3 will provide 342 MW of solar PV capacity, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of approximately 255 000 households.
